Sushmita Nath

Among the contemporary writers in Bengali literature, Sushmita Nath is a well-known name. She was born in Assam and later lived in various parts of the country. Leaving behind her career in academia, she entered the world of writing nearly a decade ago.

Her stories, novels, travelogues, poems, essays, and humorous writings have been published in almost all major popular magazines over the years, including Desh, Sananda, Unish-Kuri, Anandamela, Anandabazar Patrika, Sandesh, Shuktara, Kishor Bharati, Nabakallol, Basumati, Sukhi Grihokon, Grihshobha, Femina, Uttarbanga Sangbad, Suspense Barshiki, Dainik Jugasankha, and Uttorer Saradin. Her works have entertained, intrigued, and captivated readers.

She has also written seven serialized novels for the Sharadiya (festive) and regular issues of Anandamela, Sananda, and other magazines, all of which have been highly acclaimed by readers. Additionally, several of her books have been published.

Arun Chattopadhyay

Born in 1953 in Mahesh, currently living in Baidyabati. He studied Chemistry and is a doctor by profession. He started writing from his student days. He regularly writes stories, poems, essays, science fiction, ghost stories, detective stories, humorous stories, and novels for both children and adults.

His writings have been published in many children’s magazines, including Anandamela, Shuktara, Kishor Bharati, Kishor Gyan-Bigyan, Kishor Barta, Magic Lamp, Setu Junior, Pother Sujon, Chotoder Kolorob, Chotoder Rupkotha, Anandakanon, and Kisholoy.

For adults, his works have appeared in magazines like Saptahik Bartaman, Kathasahitya, Suspense Barshiki, Sarakkhan, Sharad Arghya, Rewa, Uttorer Saradin, and many others.

He also writes about science, medicine, and health in magazines such as Bigyan O Bigyani, Scientiphilia, Sabuj Prithibi, Anandakanon, and more.

Nabakumar Basu

Born on December 10, 1949. After completing his M.S. from the University of Calcutta, he started his career as a surgeon. He is the only full-time Bengali writer living in England. He took early retirement from his medical profession to focus on writing.

So far, he has written over 200 short stories and 40 novels of different genres. Some of his notable books include Sudhabishe Mishe, Shrimoyi Maa, Chirosakha, Phuler Ditiyo Ritu, Fayda O Onyanyo Golpo, Chomke Beray Drishti Eray, and Hiya Porobash, among others.

In 2015, the NABIC organization in America and Aajkaal newspaper jointly honored him with the “Sera Bangali” award. Apart from writing, he has a deep interest in theater and music.

Sourav Bandopadhyay

Sourav Bandopadhyay was Born in 6th Nov 1971 in South Kolkata. His father was a school teacher who incorporate the habit of studying novels at his tender age from his father’s home collection of books. He did graduation from Calcutta University in Commerce stream. Writing habit has grown up from his school days. At the beginning, he wrote only poems. Later he started writing short stories also. He associated with many little magazines since his college hood. His writings has been published in many little magazines over the last three decades. In last ten years he concentrated mainly in translation work. He has already translated many short stories into Bengali from many Indian languages. Nowadays he has concentrated in modernization of the ancient Bengali novels. Besides that he also translated various old English Detective stories in to Bengali. At present he is working in a travel agency in Kolkata.

Abir Gupta

Abir Gupta was born on May 19, 1962. He completed his Higher Secondary education in Science in 1980. He graduated with honors in Applied Geology from Jadavpur University and later obtained a postgraduate degree in the same field. Since 1989, he has been working at the Geological Survey of India. He is also an Honorary Fellow of the Geological Association and Research Center.

His first written work was published in Anandabazar Patrika in 2001. His first mystery novel was published in Anandamela magazine in 2003. To date, he has published numerous scientific articles, essays, novels, short stories, and features in both English and Bengali in national and international journals and magazines. He has also been associated for a long time with the editorial work of two geology magazines.

Abhishyanda Lahiri Deb

Abhishyanda Lahiri Deb was born on February 26, 1985, in Kolkata. He studied Bengali literature at Presidency College and the University of Calcutta. After completing his studies, he worked as a journalist for some time. Currently, he is busy with his family, two children, and his writing. Along with editing different books, he has a deep interest in translated literature. Many of his translated stories and novels have been published in various magazines and newspapers.

Partha De

Partha De was born in Kolkata. He completed his schooling at Purulia and Belur Ramakrishna Mission. He pursued his postgraduate studies at the University of Calcutta. From his college days, he had a passion for writing, but he began serious writing in 2007.

For many years, he has been contributing to major publications such as Rabibasariya Anandabazar Patrika, Anandamela, Desh, Unish Kuri, Kishore Bharati, Nandan, and Antarip, as well as various smaller magazines and little magazines. He is comfortable writing in multiple genres, including social, mystery-thriller, science fiction, and historical fiction. He writes for both adult and young readers.

He has published eight books, among which notable titles include Chander Upatyaka, Desh Hariye Jay, Aruparkothara, Feel-Good Gari, Manan Sheel, and Rudhira Dharay Rohosyo, among others.

Partha De is also an accomplished translator. He has officially translated several pan-Indian English bestsellers into Bengali, including Chetan Bhagat’s national bestseller The Girl in Room 105. In 2022, he was honored as the first recipient of the Anish Deb Memorial Award.

Sourav Bandopadhyay

Anuva Nath

Anuva Nath was born in Naihati, a town rich with the legacy of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. She is an Executive Engineer in a government organization by profession, but writing is her passion. Her works—stories, poems, essays, and humorous pieces—have been published in numerous magazines, newspapers, and webzines, including Anandamela, Sananda, Kishore Bharati, Sukhtara, Aro Ananda, Chirasabuj Lekha (West Bengal Information & Cultural Affairs Department magazine), Aajkal, Sangbad Pratidin, Uttar Banga Sangbad, Kobi Sammelan, Matri Shakti, Abahaman, Ei Samay Blog, Jago Bangla, Joydhak, Jolforing, Bangla Live, Opar Bangla, and many others.

Her stories have also been featured on Sunday Suspense and Radio Milan 91.9 Friends FM. She has received the Amiya Bhowmik Swarnakalom Award at the Kolkata International Micro Film Festival.

She has published one book so far, and its English translation, Future of Errors and Other Stories, was published by international publisher Ukiyoto.

Jaydev Bhukta

Jaydev Bhukta For the last three decades of his life, post his retirement from college, Jaydev Bhukta dedicated himself entirely to the pursuit of translations. Since his very childhood he had developed a love for literature that was further broadened and intensified through his academic and professional ventures.

While in the classroom he would communicate his passion for literature to the students, taking them away from the world of tests and examinations. He would give them a taste of the celestial elixir, the bliss of literature, something that nourished his own being over the years. Endowed with a natural skill in both the languages, English and Bengali, Professor Bhukta was at ease with the work of translation, seeking a bridging of the two cultures, Western and Indian.
