Ask anyone and all the answers will be the same; Bengali readers love to read detective stories. Why then, there is no regular magazine dedicated for mueder, mysteries and detective stories? The irony is, things were not like this for a long time. In fact, in sixties, eminent writers, like Gourango Prasad Basu, Narayan Chakraborty, Robin Deb, Adrish Bardhan etc. kept on writing detective stories and novels for the thrill seeking readers. It was probably NIhar Ranjan Gupta who was able to create an extremely popular detective-assistant duo. The stories were so famous that even the villain, Kalo Bhramar, became popular among the readers. Among the publishing houses, Deb Sahitya Kutir was the first one that successfully created serieses of detective stories. While the detective serise of Debsahitya Kutir helped some of the newcomers get recognition, it also helped others, like Prabhbati Devi Saraswati, to create a stronghold of readers. TO bring back the old glories of the detective stories, Liber Fieri has taken the first step for formulating and publishing magazines dedicated to detective stories of today’s eminent bengali writers.
